Teams are made up of individuals and a winning team comprises a group of individuals who, together, can create a winning combination. This session is about helping the participants to identify their own personal strengths and development needs, so that, together, they can develop into a winning team.

The training activity starts by introducing two broad ‘families’ of characteristics for members of winning teams: achieving the task; and working in the team. Each of these elements is then taken to a further level of details and the participants are introduced to ten different components. Working in groups, individual team members then assess their own personal ability in the ten subdivisions of achieving the task and working in the team. Participants with similar development needs then form small groups and discuss the issues of particular relevance to them. The whole group then reforms and each smaller group briefly reports on its discussions. Finally, the group as a whole develops an outline action plan for working on the collective development needs that have been uncovered during the session.

Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to introduce the two main elements that contribute towards the development of the winning team – achieving the task and working together.
