Teams can often be no more than a group of people working as individuals alongside each other. Team growth will depend on individula efforts with little thought to the learning and development needs of the team as a whole. Team performance will be greatly enhanced if we recognise the strength of learning as a whole team. This activity gives an opportunity to explore how teams can learn and develop together and the pivotal role of reflection and questioning in the team learning process.
A short, physical problem-solving exercise is used to help participants explore what happens in whole-team learning, whilst having fun. Individuals complete a reflective learning log to help develop ideas for a team learning cycle. Small groups then use this cycle to work on a team-management problem. The activity ends with participants completing a second learning log about how reflection and questioning helped the learning process.
