Time-stealers have very clear intentions – they want your time and, more often than not, they want it now. If they succeed in stealing your time, the result is that they get what they want but you end up not achieving your objectives. This training activity gives participants the opportunity to identify people who steal their time, the reasons why it is difficult to say ‘No’, and the skills required to improve assertiveness, and to complete a personalised action plan.

Initially, you give participants the opportunity, individually, to identify the main people who impact upon their time. Then, in a group discussion, you explore with participants why saying ‘No’ is so difficult and the general skills needed to increase assertiveness. Participants then carry out role-plays to practise the skills discussed and finally complete their individual action plans identifying the specific actions they personally intend to take.
