It is essential to have a clear picture of what is happening now if you want to identify things to change in the future. Now that the participants have completed their timelogs, this is the opportunity to extract as much relevant information from them as possible. This training activity uses the completed timelogs to analyse the information gathered and to summarise the findings. The information is used to compare actual time with preferred time, giving the participants the opportunity to evaluate and share practical ideas and define their own specific learning points.

You begin this training activity by asking the participants to analyse their timelogs and compare how the actual time spent on their tasks compares with the preferred time they identified from the handout ‘Where should my time go?' from the training activity ‘Where does your time go.’ To explore these further you set up an ‘interview’ situation and invite the participants to share the learning points with the group. You then ask them to focus specifically on the time spent on telephone calls and interruptions, and to consider how these should be managed in relation to their prime time. Finally, you ask the group members to complete a personalised and specific action plan.
