Time management is both a personal and a group issue, and the skills underpinning it require ongoing development. To review your own personal development in relation to the people around you is very important. A good way of understanding how your personal effectiveness impacts on others is to hold a time management workshop. This training activity focuses on helping participants to understand the skills they will need for this.
You begin this training activity by exploring with the participants the methods and benefits of holding a time-management workshop. You then involve the participants in a role-play which gives them the opportunity to practise the skills they have learnt.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers and is particularly beneficial if held about 6–10 working days before following it up with other chosen activities. The intervening time will give the participants the opportunity to carry out a workshop back at their individual workplace. This will help them gain some specific details of how their existing personal effectiveness impacts on others, and will greatly increase their chances of ‘buying into’ the time-management principles you will be asking them to take on board. If a time gap is not logistically possible, you will still find this a very beneficial training activity to include in the main body of the course. It is particularly useful for those participants who appear to be unaware of the full impact that their time-management problems can have on others.
