More and more organisations recognise that many senior managers do not want to travel half-way around the world for one meeting, no matter how important, particularly in the light of increased costs and terrorist activities in certain parts of the world. So, organisations are turning to videoconferencing as a way of communicating between groups of individuals based in different locations. This training activity will give participants an insight into how to use videoconferencing effectively.
You introduce the training activity by describing what videoconferencing is and explaining why videoconferencing is increasing. The participants discuss the advantages and disadvantages of videoconferencing and the situations where they think it could be used. Next, they prepare for a videoconferencing call. They look at the key points of successful videoconferencing and the etiquette to follow when conferencing. They then take part in a videoconference and share feedback on their experience. Finally, they participate in a further videoconference, the topic being an assessment of the last conference meeting. You close the training activity with a brief review of what the participants have learned about videoconferencing from putting the guidelines and skills into practice.
