You need to know your destination in order to get there. Helping the team develop a clear picture of the future, and establishing objectives for it, makes success in achieving that future far more likely. In creating a team vision, it is essential that all team members are actively involved and own that vision. This activity introduces and provides a practice opportunity for three different visioning techniques to promote team learning and development.
You start off by leading a simple relaxation exercise, to help people get into the mood for visualising. Following your brief introduction to the purpose of the activity, participants, working in three groups, move on to use one of three techniques to create visions of the future. The focus of the vision is how a high-achieving learning and developing team is working together. Each group then presents their vision, and the technique they have used, to the whole group. This part of the activity ends with noting of positive and negative aspects of using each technique (including use of music, if this one has been used) to promote team development. The activity closes with the completion of a learning log and your guided visualisation.
