We all learn all the time. At work we may formally identify some of our needs, but quite often we learn without doing this. Thinking about our needs more consciously, identifying them and prioritising them will help make learning more effective and efficient.

This training activity begins with a short introductory exercise which helps participants to think laterally. They then work in small groups to consider how learning needs arise and how they can be identified. The participants present their ideas in imaginative ways before moving on to work individually, looking at their own needs in relation to becoming a better learner and also considering their priorities. Pairs work is used to make decisions on where to start and to agree their priorities; this work is recorded and can be kept as a learning log. A closing exercise helps participants focus on the outcome of their planned learning.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to participants to identify some of their learning needs and set priorities for meeting them.
